With the Cowboys facing the end of the game Dak Prescott shows signs of frustration

The QB said he was shocked and hurt, among other things, with Dallas on the verge of missing the playoffs for the second straight season.

ARLINGTON - The burden or pressure of being the face of the franchise was evident on the face of Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.

Late Sunday night, he took the microphone in a black turtleneck with a chain and expressed his disappointment.Last week, Prescott — and you can add Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow — joined the list of franchise quarterbacks who have expressed frustration with their current state.

In Burrow's case, comments he made after the Bengals were eliminated from playoff contention sparked panic about his future in Cincinnati.

Prescott is not any side.

Even if the Cowboys wanted to move on from Prescott, which they don't, they have a no-trade clause.

After the 34-26 loss to the Vikings, Prescott looked like he didn't want to talk about the reality of his current situation, and you even started to wonder about his future.

The loss all but eliminated the Cowboys from the playoffs, a spot Prescott didn't expect to stay a little more than a week before Christmas.

"Yeah, it was weird, especially after the bye week and the trades [were] like those few weeks, and then watch the confidence go up," Prescott said."[We've] stopped teams from scoring at will, coming back from 21 points [against Philidelphia]. There's only so many good wins to be in this position. Just a reminder that every game matters. It's a tough game. These guys get paid all week. They train and they don't prepare any differently than we do. It's very tough. I'm having a good day.

The Cowboys have a 3-5-1 before the trade deadline to help the defense.A three-game season streak with wins over the Eagles and Chiefs, two teams that played in the Super Bowl last year, added a lot of excitement.

Now, after a two-game losing streak that pushed the record to 6-7-1, the Cowboys have a 1% chance of reaching the postseason.

The Eagles, in first place in the NFC East, will have to lose their remaining three games, a possibility, but probably not going to happen if we're being honest with ourselves.

So Prescott, who has three games left in the 10th year of his career, is at risk of missing the postseason for the second straight year.It will be the second time Prescott has gone consecutive seasons without reaching the postseason.

At 32, you're missing so much from your goals, and in Prescott's eyes, that's Super Bowls.

His contemporaries – Jared Goff (31), Jalen Hurts (27), Burrows (29) and Patrick Mahomes (30) – have already played in Super Bowls.Mahomes has three titles.Hurt is alone.

Matthew Stafford, at 37, is playing for a Rams team in the title race.ER points out that Prescott was 33 years old when he won a title with the Rams in the 2021 season.

That doesn't mean Prescott's time is running out.He is signed through 2028. He currently leads the NFL in completions, attempts, passing yards and yards per game.

But his team is not in favor of playing in mid-January.You know, in a meaningful game.

You can talk about insecurity, a continuous issue, as part of the problem.

But Prescott didn't throw a touchdown Sunday night, led the offense by going 2-of-12 on third down and racked up 423 yards of offense, but couldn't complete the drives needed to score touchdowns.

The disappointment of this Cowboys season can't be pinned on Prescott. He did his part with an offense that ranked first in several categories for most of the season.

"We didn't do what we needed to do to win, we didn't score in the red zone, so we didn't have an answer in the game and we didn't score in the red zone," he said."You put those two things together and you're going to lose by eight hours. Yeah, it's unfortunate, it's crazy, but that's the reality of the NFL. It's tough."
