What Lakers insiders see Lebron returning -

As James begins his record-breaking 23rd season in the NBA, here are the four biggest questions that need to be answered.

Will he improve LA's other stars in Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves, or will he hinder the development of both?

Impact on Ayton is a great starting point.The 7-footer signed a two-year, $16.2 million deal with the Portland Trail Blazers after reaching a buyout -- a bargain deal that didn't require L.A.separate from any assets – and his relationship with James has already drawn very mixed views around the league.

1. Can Donchik and Rhubarb continue to cook?

Especially if it helps keep Reaves and Donczyk healthy long term.

“It's hard to keep that level of stress in your body,” one West scout said of the responsibility Reaves handled while James was on the sideline.

Against Utah, Donick (37 points, including 13-of-16 from the free-throw line) and Reaves (26 points, including 11-of-12 from the foul line) kept up their numbers with James serving as the go-to passer.

James' average touch length Tuesday was 2.46 seconds, the lowest in any game since player tracking began in 2013-14, per GeniusIQ, as his crisp ball led the Lakers' offense to a season-high mark.

"He sees things that others don't," Doncic said after the match."So he's here to help us all."

2. Do the Lakers need LeBron right now?

As a successful start to the season for the Lakers, they averaged the same on both offense (16) and defense (17).

"We let a lot of wins, and I think we found a way to win in real time, but it's not pretty, but it's not very good," the team told ESPN.

Adding a bright basketball mindset to Yams will certainly help this process.

"He's still the smartest guy I've been around in terms of basketball intelligence," a longtime West executive told ESPN.

The Lakers also add a big 6-foot-1, 250-pound frame.

"He brings something to this team that we don't really have: size and strength to get to the basket," Lakers forward Jake LaRavia told ESPN.

And James gave head coach JJ Redick an entirely new route option.

"If he plays, plays, plays (Voka), and then he can still play like Austin, Austin, and I don't know if he's passed as a fifth man," the West scout said.

James also lacks outside shooting.After seven seasons in Los Angeles, he ranks first in franchise history in 3-point shots made (2.3) and attempts (6.3) per game - two stats that are sure to boost the Lakers' latest ranking in 3-pointers made this season.

L.A. also struggled with accuracy from the Arc, shooting 33.8%, 24th in the league.

James shot 37.6% from 3 last season and a career-best 41% in 2023-24.

He went 2-for-3 from beyond the arc against Utah, passing Reggie Miller for 6th on the all-time 3-point list in the process.

3. How will the actors adapt?

If the diet of Doncic and Reaves was reduced to accommodate James, there is a reason there will be even fewer touches for everyone else.

"The guys [said], 'If you lose, you get a team source,'" a team source said.

Winning, of course, is the best airbrush in the game, covering imperfections that might otherwise weaken a team.James' reputation as a winner, with four league titles and 10 trips to the finals under his belt, was cemented.

He has certain beliefs about winning his members, and that has been the process all along.It starts off tough, with a new pair of young faces waiting for an important role.

"Jake's 24 and DA's 26, and people can say whatever they want, but those guys are pretty young," West coach told ESPN.

"Right now, when LeBron comes back, it's going to be the biggest game he's had and he's going to have a legitimate role with them," West's executive told ESPN."It's different."

LaRavia hit the first 3-pointer in transition off a feed from James on Tuesday and finished with 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting.Ayton scored 20 points on 10-for-13 shooting — including an alley-oop that he finished off a pass from James.

"I was telling the fun facts," Ariton said. "When an alley-oop threw me.I said, that's my second alli-opku.

4. How shall Jacob himself adopt if he must?

No player has played as long or as well as James, but he doesn't even have a personal record that compares to that.In the past, when he missed a lot of time I didn't know, he knew that the most beloved in the league and his teams are struggling in his absence.

Now, James is not even the best player on his team, and the Lakers have managed well while he has been out.

For the first time since his rookie season with the Cleveland Cavaliers, his team's success may depend more on how he gets along with his teammates than on how well his teammates get along with him.

Redick, for his part, sees no correction as a problem.

"I would describe him as very adaptable," Reddick said.

"The league has improved

The Lakers have 20 of the best backcourts in basketball.They held Giannis Antetokounmpo's first half, the Bucks' number five, and the Bucks have 34 points during a five-game road trip.

Still, for the team to have the most success this season, James will need to reinvent himself as much as the team needs to reintegrate him.

"I can hang with anybody," James said after his season debut."I don't understand why that's a question, what's wrong with these people? I can hang with anyone."
