The Green Bay Packers held their final practice of the week on Friday before hosting the Vikings on Sunday. One star returned to training, another trained again and two key defenders were out during the week.
Packers-Vikings Friday practice update: Jaden Reed returns, more news
Bay Grale, WESH.
Reed, who underwent surgery to repair an injured collarbone and foot, will not play Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings, and it could be a big ask for him to be ready for Thursday's Thanksgiving game at the Detroit Lions.
“I think once they get him free, he'll be ready to go,” passing game coordinator Jason Vrable said Thursday."He's as hungry as they can be right now. It's been tough on him, but the foot feels great and the shoulder is working again and he's a friend, so I can't wait to get him back on the field."
That hunger was evident in the early practice routine that reporters could see Friday. It was a warm-up, not a race, but Reed moved at a different pace than his teammates.
Meanwhile, packers Josh Jacobs ran back for the second day in a row on Friday, further increasing the likelihood of the list for Sunday's game against the Viking Minnesota.
"I would say he's going to be limited and we'll just see what he can do," coach Matt LaFleur said before practice.
Five players did not practice Wednesday: Jacobs, linebacker Quay Walker (shoulder), defensive tackle Karl Brooks (ankle), cornerback Nate Hobbs (knee) and receiver Savion Williams (foot).
Jacobs and Williams are back on Thursday. On Friday, Williams did not show up for the start, and neither did Walker, Rivers or Hobbs.
Walker is the team's leading tackler and the captain of the defense if he is unable to play on Sunday. It would be a big loss against the Vikings attack under 8 yards per carry.
The decision to open Reed's practice window was a bit of a surprise given the timing.Had it opened on Wednesday, he would have received the full week's practice.LeFlore was asked Thursday if he would open a return window to play later this week.
"I don't want to say for sure because of course there are situations that happen," he replied, "but I would say in general that you would open that window at the beginning of the week to give us the full advantage. Even if it's just to participate in something that goes in the past that's a matter of mind. But in general I would say that's the way we're going to act."
Maybe that's where the "absolutely speaking" comes in.They play next week on Thursday and have no real practice and he felt the team moved a little on Friday. The team will take advantage of the mini-bye and practice on Monday.
Reed, a second-round pick in 2023, led the Packers in receptions and yards in each of his first two seasons. He's a surprisingly deep threat at just a shade over 5-foot-10 and will immediately become the team's top receiving threat.
Back in Jacobs, against Arizona a few weeks ago, he was questionable with a calf injury and had to go through a pregame workout before being cleared to play. The injury report will likely be questionable on Friday.
"I think the biggest thing is that you have to see beyond his desire and understand what he's dealing with because he won't say much," said running backs coach Ben Sirmans on Thursday."If he really suffers, if he comes to you and says 'I don't think I can leave', you know that's something that's really bothering him.
"But he has a very high pain threshold. And even more than dealing with pain, it's just his heart and his willingness to go outside where he can look past every element that he feels. So as a coach and as a coach, you have to try to protect him from himself sometimes."
If Jacobs is unavailable, Emanuel Wilson and Chris Brooks will carry the load.
Meanwhile, defensive end Lucas Van Ness, who has missed the past five games with a foot injury, practiced all week and is expected to play. That would provide a boost to the defensive line given Brooks' stature.
In Minnesota, the Vikings could enter at full strength. On Thursday, Benjejest Benriswerow took a break, but it was normal time. However
The team will release their last injured for the week after Friday. For now, this is the injury that the staff does from day three, with the budget team listed with 18 players compared to five for the Vikings.
