- A panel discussion with Utah and Australian business leaders titled "Why Utah?"For business worldwide.
- Government. Spencer Cox gave a talk on business in Utah before the panel discussion.
- The meeting is part of the 2025 World Trade Center Utah trade mission to New Zealand and Australia.
SYDNEY, Australia - Why would companies in geographically distant countries like Australia and New Zealand do business with a US state like Utah?
It is this question that is included in the ongoing mission of the Utah trage in the two countries of the southern Pacific that they are willing to answer.
On the final afternoon of the ongoing Utah trade mission to New Zealand and Australia, a panel of Utah trade mission delegates and Australian business managers fired on the defining trade mission question: “Why Utah?”
But before Thursday's panel discussion began at Macquarie Group's impressive Sydney headquarters, Utah Governor Spencer Cox had some answers of his own for his Australian hosts.
Cox began by citing this week's landmark mineral deal signed by President Donald Trump and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
We are now on the doorstep within 24 hours of signing the contract - a sign that Utah is the perfect place to do business.
After taking in the natural beauty of the Beehive State, National Parks and Big Ski, Cox pointed out that Utah has much more to offer foreign businesses.
"We've been named the No. 1 state for 'Business Outlook' for 17 years in a row, which is truly remarkable," he said."And we've been the No. 1 state for economic growth for the past 10 years — and we were No. 1 again last year for gross domestic product growth in the United States."
But Utah's business appeals, Cox added, extend beyond just status.
"It's the people who work here - and that's why I'm happy that you have the opportunity to meet so many of these great entrepreneurs and business leaders.
"We were together in Australia with our friends. We are called "Australia of the United States of America".
And finally, Cox added, Utah has a “functional government,” a high bond rating and a business-friendly reputation.
"What this means is that our job is to get to 'Yes' as quickly as possible," he said.
“Do him to finish your capital, export, expose your customers.and do what you have to doIt's the least you have to do.It's the least you have to do.”

Together, he said, "the technology category covers 20% of the economy of the largest countries. It is very important because it represents more wages, about 500,000 spread throughout the country."
Starks noted that foreign investors seeking to invest in Utah will find stable employment for businesses.
"This means parking in an environment where sellers, partners and investors can come together, and you can't jeopardize that."
Kelly's company came to the United States about a decade ago and began searching for the perfect place to do business. The dense business communities on the country's east and west coasts have never been a conducive environment.
But UATAH, is added, a state to "open for business."
"I realized that Utah was an 'outer' state," Kelly said.
"There are a lot of people who speak another language. And there are a lot of people who are overseas and well-traveled and have outside eyes — they look at us when we come in.
"And that was exactly our experience."
In the meantime, investing in Utah Mining is a wise move, Somers assures.
"Also, Utah is the best place in the United States to me," he said.
"מיר זענען געווען געהייסן די שפּיץ גלאבאלע קולטור דזשוריסדיקשאַן דורך די Fraser אינסטיטוט לעצטע יאָר. מיר האָבן די מערסט דייווערס מינעראַל אַסעץ פון קיין פון די אַרומיק געביטן. מיר האָבן אַ זייער שטאָלץ קולטור געשיכטע. מיר האָבן אַ גרויס רעגולאַטאָרי סוויווע.
Summers added that Utah is very fortunate to have abundant natural resources "and an environment where your capital is safe and you can make tremendous progress if you're interested in going into mining."
Nemeth oversees the operations of Australia and New Zealand for Qualtrics in Utah.He highlighted the business "metrics" and the talent that Utah universities produce.
The boat country culture, he added, jeopardized his collaboration.
Meanwhile, Provo, Qualtrics' hometown, "is one of the most beautiful cities I've ever visited – and one of the safest, two great things that keep you coming back whenever possible."
Moss asked the commissioners about collaboration between Utah's higher education system, workforce and research.
"We have young and very talented people," Starks replied."They're highly educated people — and because of those reasons, we've built a stable business like technology, including aerospace, defense, biotech, biotech."
Meanwhile, he added, Utah is synonymous with entrepreneurship.
"We develop people who want to start companies - and, Digude, Ilah is a place where companies can access the capital and access they need to grow."
Somers praised the Utah Legislature for ensuring that universities are "focused on preparing the most demanding degrees that are demanded by the industry so that our students can get out of college and directly into their workforce."
I'm a beekeeper myself, Kelly
Utah, he observed, is like a beehive, and everyone plays their part to make the hive thrive.
"We were very, very loyal to Utah — and Utah was very loyal to us," Kelly said.
"And we all know that good business people create something together. Bad business people try to take advantage of each other to get ahead.
"But if you're open to working together, Utah loves it. It's Utah."
