Alan Park - Thanks, Lomas Brown Lomas Brown spent his Tuesday morning with a philanthropist.
Brown is one step closer to Gold Jacket and Canton.
On Tuesday, the Pro Football Hall of Fame announced its 25 semifinalists for the class of 2025, with Brown recognized as one of the numbers to advance to the next step.
"First of all, I want to thank the voters, but this is an irretrievable base because they did a lot of work to push me here," Brown said.
Shortly after the news broke, the Lions rearranged their media schedule for Tuesday to include Brown.Dressed in black Carhartt after finishing the homecoming event he attended, Brown jokingly apologized for not having enough time to go home and "freshen up" before speaking.
After Mayola, whom he fondly called "G-money," returned the news to him, headed the training facility, "shocked" by what he learned.
"I was at a loss for words at that time, I'm still at a loss for words to say to me, and to thank you," said Brown."I've been out of the game since 2002, this is last year, (I've been) Running (to enter) since 2007, and like I said this round now is good. It's true."
As Brown progressed from round to round on his pathway to Canton, the Lions’ public relations department stepped up its efforts to boost his campaign with curated videos and a website featuring quotes from former players, teammates, and NFL representatives who have worked with or played with Brown.
"It means a lot, and it's because you've done the right thing - you've done the right thing for this organization," Paefa said.
"So, like I said, hearing from other players that I've played against, from guys that I've played against, it has to do with the appreciation that I've felt and some of the things that they've said. And Sheila Ford (Hamp), like I said, the rest of the organization, they've been good to the big guy."
About 20 minutes before Brown spoke, Lions coach Dan Campbell opened his media presence by congratulating Brown, with whom he played during his time with the New York Giants.
Campbell started talking before Brown was far behind in the Lions media room waiting to speak after him, finally locking eyes with Brown and saying, "Look there, go, bro, I didn't even see you. Love you, buddy."
"To me, I don't care what team he was on, how long he played or where he started, he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame, man," Campbell said."Hell of a man, hell of a player. Productive for so long, so many years. Durability, production, everything. Kudos to him, man. Keep it up."
Campbell continued by sharing what Brown meant to him as teammates during their time in New York.
"Great teammate, man, one of those things you never forget," Campbell said."It was that guy - he just wanted to help you. Any help - look, I'll never forget, I got it. We're playing in Washington. (Former NFL DE) Bruce Smith, we got like a pass play. He's right on top of my head. I'm like, "Okay, here we go." Come up, he just swats me. Bruce Smith just scares me, and there's a LB guy. Here to help me. He's like, 'I told you.' Actually, he just covered for me when he really had tohe does something else.He has to help the guard;he comes back, and helps me.
“Incredible teammate, man.Always optimistic, never have a bad day.Would do anything for a teammate and a great player, man.Productive player.Boy, you talk about reliability, reliability, here it is.”
The next step is to review the list at the 15 end of December, who will be driven together with three employees, a teacher for the most popular.
According to the byelaws of the Gallery of the Immortals, the selection process states that between four and eight new members will be selected.
And while he still has a few steps to go, Brown envisions what life will be like once he dons that gold jacket.
"I want to make sure if I get that gold jacket, I want to make sure it's the right size," Brown Shekewn. "But I always say this, this is my job. When it happens, it happens at the right time, you know what I mean?"
"And when it happens, I say when it happens, the time is right. And if it's not the time, then it will be the right time for me."
Brown ended his career as one of the most durable players in the league, with 263 games played and second in halftimes in games played and starts among all offensive linemen.
