Blake Snell entered the World Series with a dominant streak.The game against the Toronto Blue Jays ended abruptly.
LOS ANGELES — Blake Snell thinks bad luck had as much to do with his struggles in Game 5 as the Toronto Blue Jays.
“Luck also plays in baseball,” he said.
The fifth-ranked player birdied three holes on the first two home courses before bogeying the 6th.
The blue jays have a 3-2 lead and can take the title from Los Angeles with a 6-game win over Toronto on Friday.
Snell gave up back-to-back homers to Davis Schneider and Vladimir Guerrero Jr., the first leadoff homers in a series game.Each of the first three balls were fastballs, and Snell's next 22 22 were offspeeds.
"First pitch of the game, 97 (mph) up and in, he hits it 98, it's out," Snell said of Schneider."Very bad luck. Vlad, yes, it was just a bad pitch."
He said he threw it.
"I think they're attacking the fastball," he said."They're just reading the swings and they're hitting, like they should and I thought."
Snell dominated the most difficult only to give up a triple to Duhun Mashah in the fourth inning on a ball hit 75.6 MPH.
"I'm not going to make excuses or anything like that, but it's very unfortunate," he said.
Snell couldn't finish the seventh inning.He left runners on first and third after a walk, single and two wild pitches, and the Blue Jays led 3-1.Still, the sellout crowd of 52,175 stood to applaud.
"Yes, be satisfied," he said."I felt good, I was strong. It taught me to be ready for this and be strong. I'm confident."
Edgardo Henriques replaced Snell and went for Guerrero.Addison Berger, who singled and advanced on a double from Snell's wild pitch, scored on Snell's wild pitch to make it 4-1.
“When you go up against a really good bully like him, he's going to come after you and he's going to challenge you, he's going to challenge you.There's a time to knock them out, there's a time to hit them, it's just really cool."
Snell gave up five runs and six hits in 6 2/3 innings, striking out seven and walking four on 116 pitches.
"He gave it his all," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said.
Steele is off to a strong start in his first postseason with the Dodgers, who signed him to a five-year, $182 million contract last winter.Steele had a 0.86 ERA in his first three starts.
In the NL series, Snell allowed one hit in six innings and struck out nine as the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Philadelphia Eagles 2-0 to break a 2-0 deficit.

"We all know what we're capable of, and we haven't done that in two games," Freeman said."They preached to us."
