The Orlando, Fla. Reds came into the winter meeting looking to add a big stick to the middle of their clan.Their decision makers will fly back to Boston Wednesday night without making any record changes — while watching the football numbers of Kyle Schwaber and Pete Alonso roll off the board and hand grenades, respectively.
The offseason is far from bigger, but Red Sox manager Baser Creslow saw Alivot Springday sign a $155 million contract with the team after a long year.RED SOX caused a decline in what Baltimore had, both in years and price.Breslow, speaking carefully, acknowledged Alonso's examination but declined to elaborate.
"The profile I talked about wanting to add would definitely fit," he said."But these things don't always work out. We have to make the best decisions for the organizations and the players and they have to make the best decisions for their families. Now we have to find another way to grow the roster."
"It's a big bat and that's going to be in the middle of the order. It's going to be in our division, so we'll see how it goes this season."
Asked that made an interesting case signed Alonso, Breslow Demurred.
"At the end of the day, that's not how the player was brought in," he said."That's how these things are divided, right."
With at least 34 homers in each of his six full major league seasons, Alonso appeared to be a good fit for a Red Sox club that, on paper at least, had a patchy first base position and was looking for right-handed pop.
With the top two free agents off the market, the range of options has been limited for Breslow. The Red Sox remain committed to adding offense, either via trade or free agency, in some form.
"I still think it's a good place to start to add some hitting to the lineup," Breslow said.“I mean, if we're only focused on one or two options and they don't work out, we have no options. We have to find a way to add to the roster and improve the offense."
Two star players, Bo Bichette and Alex Bregman, are still available through free agency and are set to sign long-term contracts. Both suit up for the Red Sox, and Bichette will likely move to second base along with Trevor Story and Bregman, before returning to the third base he retired in 2025. While it's unclear how seriously the Red Sox are pursuing Bichette, Bregman's fit is clear, despiteother teams are still waiting for him.
"We saw what he managed to bring on the field and in the clubhouse last year, and he's still out there," Breslow said.
The information Elienio Sugoez and Jacr Polamanco are the two agents that will lead below the breatman and boheatte of Amamo, and Kasheta of Amamo is also not included. The trade market, which is what makes the promotion of this cold, also has an opportunity.Arizona's Korniva Holan remains the star of that group, while others, including Houston's cap, remain at Sustton's Road.Report from Texas is very uncertain under the possibility of the Rangers raising the Breaking Star Corey Borey
With Schwarber and Alonso available, the SOX Red Sox are open to adding a player or two who can fit the lineup in a variety of ways.
“I think a lot of that will depend on who the players are, or who the player is, and what the offensive profile is,” said Breslow when asked if he planned on adding one position player or two. “I think we could use somebody that hits in the middle of the lineup. We’ve also talked a ton about driving in runs with runners in scoring position and less than two outs and cutting down on whiff and getting back to the simple things that score runs. Whether that’s two players, whether that’s one who can do both, I think we’ll have to see how that plays out.”
First base is still the obvious area to hang out with Triston Casa.
"I think we're going to be active in trying to find somebody that we think can play first at a really high level for us," Breslow said."With that being said, Romy (Gonzalez) did it last year and Triston showed he can. It's not about, 'Hey, Triston is going to play first base on Opening Day,' it's as much about just making sure he's physically fit.
Although the market has changed significantly in the last two days, the hunt for the Sox's bat continues.
"We came looking to address some specific needs that we talked about," Breslow said."As we get ready to leave here, those needs are still there. We have to find a way to fill them all."
